Area kid actors bring 'Wizard of Oz' to town this weekend

MEADVILLE — French Creek Community Theater and its two student directors, Tiffany Gentry and Sarah Wright, present the classic “The Wizard of Oz” on Nov. 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. at The Academy Theatre, 275 Chestnut St., Meadville.

The musical follows Dorothy Gale (Marie Lineman) as she finds herself in the land of Oz, which is far from her farm and her Aunt Em (Isabelle Snyder) and Uncle Henry (Jonah Foxman). On her adventure, Dorothy encounters the tiny munchkins and Glinda the good witch (Jenna Ploski). She also befriends a Scarecrow (Jordan Gallagher), Cowardly Lion (Bob Weber) and Tinman (Cody Gould) on her way to see the great and powerful Wizard of Oz (Zach Cole).

Along the yellow brick road, Dorothy and her friends meet up with the Wicked Witch (Emma Heuchert), poppies, winkies, trees, jitterbugs, lollipop guild, lullaby league, flying monkeys and Ozians.

On Nov. 9 at 6 p.m., there will be a character meet-and-greet, which includes an autograph book, a snack and a chance for fans to meet six of the main characters. Tickets for this can be purchased at the door and are $4.

Tickets for the show itself are $10 and can be purchased at the box office or online at theacademytheatre.org.
