One of area's most important charities invites you to meet-and-greet today

Center for Family Services is 150 years old this year

MEADVILLE — If you’ve turned 150 years old, you should really throw a party, so the Center for Family Services Inc. is doing just that and you are invited.

Today the Center for Family Services is hosting a Meet & Greet Celebration at the Ballroom of Juniper Village on Chestnut Street between 4 and 6:30 p.m. as the agency’s staff and board show the impact CFS has had on the community. The event includes hors d’oeuvres, beverages and door prizes. The agency staff will present creative displays and activities as event attendees “Meet and Greet.”

Community members formed the original grassroots organization in 1863 that has evolved into the Center for Family Services today. The name has changed through the years but the focus on helping local families in need has remained.

“Going through old articles and ledgers, we see the problems are really still the same” says Shawnel Toomey, CFS Essential Services supervisor. “It was help with supplying wood for heat in the 1800s, budgeting for coal purchases in the 1920s. There is the need for assistance in providing food, clothing and shelter regardless of the time period.”

“We are so fortunate to have been encircled by a generous community for 150 years” says Linda Bennett, CFS executive director. “Community concern and involvement have been the key to the agency’s existence and it hasn’t changed. We hope everyone can come out and celebrate.”

Juniper Village is located at 455 Chestnut St.
