COCHRANTON — Fran McClain, Cochranton’s long-time borough manager, is planning to retire at the end of the month.

McClain, who has been borough manager since Jan. 1, 1986, formally gave notice of her intention to retire on April 30, at Cochranton Borough Council’s monthly meeting Monday night.

“It’s bittersweet,” McClain said as Borough Council accepted her notice. “I’ll miss  a Iot of the people. I appreciate all the help I’ve had from council and the trust in me over the years.”

As borough manager, McClain oversees day-to-day government operations in this community of 1,136.

Cochranton Borough Council members said they’re happy for McClain, but they and the borough will miss her wealth of experience.

Barb Opatrny, who has been a secretary in the Cochranton Borough Office, has been named by Cochranton Borough Council as McClain’s successor. She’ll begin her duties as borough manager May 1.
