Titusville Area Hospital announced staffing adjustments expected to reduce its full time labor force by the equivalent of 18 full-time employees, according to a press release sent to the Tribune on Friday.
The release states the job cuts and other unspecified changes will reduce overall labor costs.
“Titusville Area Hospital has experienced a drop in inpatients as third party payors across the board have expanded their use of ‘observation status’ as an alternative to admission,” hospital Chief Executive Officer Anthony Nasralla said in the release.
Hospital officials also reportedly observed a decrease in inpatient use and are experiencing a growing number of mostly elderly patients “less able to afford out-of-pocket costs.”
“Patients receive the same care in the same bed by the same healthcare personnel and the Hospital is paid 60 (percent) to 70 (percent) less than an inpatient admission,” Nasralla said. “We also realize that due to higher co-payments and deductibles being imposed on patients, many avoid seeking services or may put them off altogether.”
No information was released regarding what departments may be affected or how much the hospital would save overall.
Jane McNierney, director of development and community relations, declined further comment.
