Candidates may start petitions on Tuesday

MEADVILLE — Tuesday is the first day when candidates in Pennsylvania’s 2013 municipal elections may start circulating and filing nominating petitions for the May primary election.

Pennsylvania’s primary election day is May 21.

Petitioners may circulate signature sheets from Tuesday through March 12, and March 27 is listed as the last day in which a candidate may withdraw.

Countywide offices up for election this year include both the treasurer and clerk of courts positions.

There also will be localized races for school board, mayor and city council seats in both Meadville and Titusville; mayor and borough council seats; township supervisor; tax collector; judge of election and inspector of elections.

Voters are reminded that April 22 is the last date to register to vote for the primary.

Applications for absentee ballots may be made through May 14, and must be received by the Crawford County Board of Elections by May 17.

Announcement policy

The Meadville Tribune will accept candidacy announcements from those seeking office through March 12, the closing date for filing petitions.

To be published, a candidate announcement must be received at the Tribune’s offices, 947 Federal Court, Meadville, by 5 p.m. March 12.
