State store workers fight to save 'family-sustaining' jobs

“Family-sustaining jobs?”

The Liquor Control Board has 4,428 employees, making it the seventh largest state agency, according to state records. Of the state agencies, only the Department of Transportation, the State System of Higher Education, Department of Public Welfare, state police, Department of Corrections and Labor Department have more employees.

The entry-level base pay for a liquor store clerk is $22,396 or $10.77 an hour. The top base pay for a liquor store clerk is $42,015, but with overtime, a handful made more than $50,000 and one clerk’s pay topped $60,000 in 2012, state records show.

Starting pay for a liquor store manager is $31,472. The top base pay for a liquor store manager is $52,675. The highest paid liquor store general manager is paid $107,666.
