WEST SALEM TOWNSHIP, Mercer County —  A Greenville man was killed in a one-car crash early this morning on Route 18 south of Greenville.

Jesse James Wasser, 29, of Columbia Avenue, Greenville, was pronounced dead at the scene in West Salem Township at 7:31 a.m. by Robert L. Snyder, Mercer County deputy coroner. Snyder ruled the death accidental due to blunt force trauma to the head.

Wasser wasn’t wearing a seat belt when he lost control of his car while traveling north on Route 18, Snyder said. Wasser’s auto slid broadside into the left rear of a flatbed semi-trailer which was parked in a parking area along the east berm of Route 18, Snyder said.

An unidentified passenger in the car was taken from the scene to UPMC Horizon Greenville for treatment. No word on the passenger’s identity or condition is available as yet.

Greenville West Salem Police Department is continuing to investigate the accident. Life Force Ambulance Service and West Salem Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
