Under the direction of temporary President Tom Morgan, who held office just long enough to oversee the selection of the next president and vice president, Luigi DeFrancesco was re-appointed president of PENNCREST School Board, and Jason Bakus was named vice president during the board’s annual reorganization meeting Monday night. All of Pennsylvania’s 500 school boards are required to conduct annual reorganization meetings to select officers and representatives to various organizations and set a schedule of meetings for the coming year.
In the only contested contest of the evening, board member Trudy Whitman, who served as vice president during 2012, received three votes for the presidency, with Carole Jones, Harold Shorts and Whitman voting in her favor.
Jones was re-appointed to serve as the board’s liaison to Pennsylvania School Boards Association. Morgan was appointed to a three-year term as one of the district’s three representatives on Crawford County Career & Technical Center’s Joint Operating Committee.
Whitman was appointed to fill the remaining term of Harry Hicks as board representative to the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit 5 board; the term of office expires June 30, 2013.
Following the meeting, which lasted just 10 minutes, the board attended a holiday party in the board room, featuring refreshments provided by Superintendent Connie Youngblood and her husband, Tom.
The board will continue to meet on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. The board also meets as a committee of the whole at 7 p.m. on the Monday preceding the monthly meeting in the district administration office in Saegertown.
The board’s next committee of the whole session will be at 7 p.m. on Dec. 10 in the district administration office. The next meeting will be Dec. 13, also at 7 p.m. in the administration office.
