Meadville Council on the Arts’ 38th annual October Evenings Juried Exhibit, showcasing an array of art forms created by local artists, opens Oct. 5. Jurors Karen Ernst and Glenn Holmstrom chose more than 50 works of art that include paintings, ceramics, photographs and fabric creations that are exhibited in the Heeschen Gallery (second floor of the Market House).
The event runs through Nov. 3.
Among the art work exhibited is Peggy Spaulding’s “Leaf.” Her fabric creation using autumn colors will delight those viewers who find the fall season a favorite. Linda DeArment’s “Hibiscus” watercolor created with vibrant colors will catch the fascination of those who love the colors of summer. Beautiful shades and tints of burgundy and turquoise glazes cover Eliza Wolfe’s ceramic pitcher titled “Rosie,” also adorned with a rose. Edward Jonasen’s bas-relief piece “Into the Susquehanna” depicts a turtle that will excite viewers with its copper color and textural patina surfaces. These art works are just a few of the creations exhibited to be enjoyed by the community.
The public is invited to the opening reception on Oct. 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. with a ceremony at 8 when the awards will be announced, along with the sponsors. Gallery hours are Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 4 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
