As it turns out, Allegheny College’s Robertson Field will glow this week after all.
After wet conditions canceled the popular Night Glow event at the 25th annual Thurston Classic Hot Air Balloon Event on Thursday, event organizers announced Friday evening that the Night Glow will now take place on Saturday at 9:30 p.m. at Robertson Field on Meadville’s upper Park Avenue extension.
Also scheduled for Saturday’s Classic are sanctioned races at 7 a.m. at 6:15 p.m. The inflation then launch of a hydrogen gas balloon — a tribute to the Thurston family — is expected to take place between 6 and 7 a.m. on Saturday, organizers say. The balloon was scheduled to fly last Wednesday, but poor weather conditions canceled the flight.
Also, the third and final sanctioned race is Sunday at 7 a.m.
During the races, balloons will fly into the complex from outlying areas and pilots will attempt to hit a specific target on the ground with baggies tossed from their balloons.
In addition, there will be live broadcasts on FROGGY, WUZZ and MAJIC radio on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m.
