Woman trapped in van after mysterious crash

CONNEAUT TOWNSHIP — Pennsylvania State Police at Meadville are seeking the public’s help on a one-van crash in western Crawford County Sunday that has left an Ohio woman hospitalized in intensive care.

Wendy S. Montello, 40, of Andover, Ohio was pinned inside her van for an unknown time following the crash along the Linesville-Conneautville Road in Conneaut Township, police said. The crash was spotted at 6:30 a.m. Sunday by a passing motorist, police said.

Montello was listed in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, a nursing supervisor said.

Montello was driving south on the road when her van went straight through a bend in the road and off the east side of the road, police said. Montello’s van then went down an embankment and struck a tree, police said.

Montello initially was taken to Meadville Medical Center for treatment, but later was transferred to Hamot via ambulance.

Linesville and Conneautville volunteer fire departments and Linesville and Conneaut Lake area ambulance services assisted state police at the scene.

Persons with information about the crash are asked to contact state police at Meadville at 332-6911.
