An autopsy is scheduled for Monday on the human remains that were found Friday in northern Crawford County, according to Francis Schultz, Crawford County’s district attorney.
The remains are believed to be of Gerald Vandyke of the Union City area, but the autopsy has been scheduled to give confirmation, Schultz said late this afternoon. Vandyke, 55, had been missing since Sept. 14.
Richard A. Houy, 68, of Rockdale Township, has been charged by Pennsylvania State Police with criminal homicide in connection with Vandyke’s death. Houy allegedly confessed to state police on Wednesday that he had killed Vandyke.
Houy remains in the Crawford County jail in Saegertown awaiting a preliminary hearing on homicide and related charges.
