During their recent monthly meeting, members of Meadville Area Water Authority put a new public comment policy into place.
A public comment period at the beginning of the meeting shall be included on all meeting agendas. A second public comment period may be offered at the end of a meeting at the chair’s discretion. An individual shall have a maximum of five minutes to address the authority on meeting agenda items during the initial public comment period. Any discretionary public comment at the end of the meeting shall be limited to three minutes per individual on any relevant MAWA-related topic.
At the beginning of each meeting, residents of the MAWA service area or MAWA customers desiring to address the board shall identify themselves by name, address and the subject matter of their visit on a “sign-in sheet.” People who are not residents of the MAWA service area or MAWA customers, or who do not fill out the sign-in sheet at the meeting, may only address the board with special permission by the chairperson.
Previously, there were no formal rules governing public comment.
