Man accused of fraud related to timber business

MEADVILLE — A man originally from the Titusville area is awaiting a preliminary hearing on fraud-related charges for allegedly scamming numerous people in several counties, according to Crawford County Chief Deputy Sheriff Neil Fratus.

James E. Fielding Sr., 49, was accused of advertising to the public that he was the owner of Titusville-based business Lone Wolf Timber.

He reportedly signed landowners’ names on timber-related agreements and reported false information, taking money and failing to complete agreements, Fratus said.

The charges were filed through investigations related to his initially being wanted for parole violations.

“We spent several months looking for him at a lot of places he’d stopped,” Fratus said. “People were sharing with us about him promising them money for timber on their property. They never got paid.”

When Fielding was arrested on Feb. 4 in Erie by agents from multiple law enforcement agencies, Fratus passed information regarding the investigation to the attorney general’s office, who charged Fielding with multiple counts of forgery, theft by deception and deceptive or fraudulent business practices, Fratus said.

Fielding was eventually arraigned before Titusville Magisterial District Judge Amy Nicols. He remains incarcerated on $50,000 bond, Fratus said.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 4.
