New feature allows readers to 'look back' at archived photos

One of the functions of a newspaper is to be a historical record of events and people of the area. As a result, The Meadville Tribune has collected many photographs over the years that portray the way things used to be.

With this in mind, we present a new weekly feature, “Looking Back” where we will share historical photos with our readers. Some were printed in our paper, while others have sat in drawers and file cabinets — unseen by the public for decades.

Our hope is that you, the reader, will find as much enjoyment in these old images as we have had digging them out, dusting them off and scanning them into a modern digital format.

Starting today and running each Saturday, we’ll provide a photo on either Page A2 or the Our Towns page with any information that accompanied the archived photograph.

We’ll also post these photos on our Facebook page — facebook.com/meadvilletribune. If any of these photos bring back a memory of yester-year or if you have any more information about the photo that you would like to share, leave a comment. We’ll be sure to include some of the best comments along with the next week’s photograph.

Enjoy!
