One remains in serious condition after being hit in Dairy Queen parking lot

Police release names of those involved in Tuesday crash

VERNON TOWNSHIP — Police on Thursday released the names of those involved in a Tuesday evening crash on Route 322 that led to two people being flown to UPMC Hamot in Erie.

At approximately 8 p.m., a vehicle driven by Kevin Francisco, 24, of Centerville crossed over both westbound lanes, without hydroplaning, near Shaw Avenue, according to Vernon Township police.

Francisco’s vehicle entered and passed through the Days Inn parking lot, continued east and then entered the west side of the Dairy Queen parking lot, police said.

Francisco’s car struck a van sitting at the drive-through window, causing the right front wheel assembly to break from his vehicle.

After hitting the van, Francisco’s car struck a pedestrian, Juanita Johnson of Meadville.

Francisco’s vehicle finally came to rest against two cars parked in the Dairy Queen parking lot, according to police.

Johnson and Karey Davis, a passenger in Francisco’s car, were life flighted to UPMC Hamot. Johnson was in serious condition Thursday night, according to a UPMC Hamot nursing supervisor. Davis is no longer at the hospital.

Francisco was treated at Meadville Medical Center and released, according to a nursing supervisor.

Vernon police were assisted at the scene by Pennsylvania State Police, Vernon Township Volunteer Fire Department and Meadville Ambulance Service.

Police are still investigating.
