CONNEAUT LAKE —
Last February when Conneaut Lake Park was closed for the season, a representative of Lusid Media approached Jack Moyers, chairman of the Trustees of Conneaut Lake Park, with a proposition — designed to help the park and hopefully allow it to be a feature of a pilot program for the Travel Channel.
“They were looking for a site,” said Moyers, noting the idea was to make a film as a pilot project for an ongoing series on the Travel Channel. Since the park was closed at the time, Moyers agreed with the idea, but he suggested the actual plan be put into motion in the summer time.
Now, it’s summer and the project is moving forward.
Moyers noted that the representative told him that once the company “had the ability to get the concept sold to the Travel Channel,” they would like to do it as a pilot project. The Trustees agreed and now Lusid Media is sponsoring a week-long renovation project at the park and is seeking help — in the way of volunteer labor, materials and other donations. A call has been issued for anyone wishing to help in efforts to save the 121-year-old amusement park for future generations.
Volunteers are asked to donate any amount of time they can the week of July 29 through Aug. 3.
Asked for an idea about what volunteers will be expected to do, Skye De Moya, development production coordinator of Lusid Media, said Friday, “We are not releasing any information about the specific attractions at this time.”
Moyers had said the Travel Channel was investing in and creating a new attraction for the park.
However, he said all information about the details must come from the Travel Channel.
What is known is efforts are to give the park a “facelift,” said Moyers. “They have a project in mind. They just have to get it nailed down.”
In the meantime, anybody who has any type of construction materials — such as lumber, paint, materials, etc. — that they would be willing to donate to the effort may do so. In addition, anyone having any time and talent to devote is also welcome. Moyers said that could be individuals, companies, contractors or organizations. Volunteers are needed for such things as painting, landscaping, light construction and such activities.
The park is a public trust under the operation of the Trustees of Conneaut Lake Park. It has been struggling financially for a number of years. Its latest struggle involves the possibility of the park being sold in 2014 because of delinquent real estate taxes, which are close to $1 million.
The Trustees are working to generate more interest and more revenue in the park to ensure it remains open.
Lusid Media will film the improvements as work is being done to show what has been accomplished, and that film will be submitted for inclusion on the program for the Travel Channel. Then, Travel Channel will decide to air the program or not.

In addition to the material and/or volunteer donations, the company also is seeking photographs of prior years at the park to be included in the “before and after” portions of the program. Written permission of those who own the photographs must be given before they can be used.
Anyone having such pictures may also use the above email address to coordinate those efforts.
Moyers is excited about the possibilities the film could generate for the park and hopes park supporters will join in the efforts. Moyers said he is not in charge of the project and all communications must be made directly with Lusid Media.
