Downtown Meadville concert series rolls on with Allegheny Drifters

MEADVILLE — The Meadville Council on the Arts presents a concert by the Allegheny Drifters today at 7 p.m. in the Dexter A. Bulen Gazebo in Meadville’s Diamond Park. The concert is presented free of charge thanks to concert sponsor Juniper Village and series sponsor Bush Investment Group.

Pennsylvania’s Allegheny Drifters are one of the strongest vocal bands on the bluegrass scene today, according to concert series organizers. Bob Artis and Bernie Cunningham’s duet blend offers the sound and feeling of the golden age of bluegrass.

When joined by the harmony of Karen Artis, this band has a thrilling vocal sound seldom heard in traditional groups today. Add to this Bob Artis’ soulful retro-Monroe mandolin and Keith Beaver’s punchy banjo, and the crowd has a bluegrass sound straight from the heart of the old Keystone State.

The Council on the Arts recommends that attendees bring a chair or blanket for maximum comfort. There will be family-friendly activities during the concert.

More than 300 people turned out for last week’s concert. The final concert in the five-part series is next week.

In case of rain, the concert will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 356 Chestnut St.
