VERNON TOWNSHIP —
The resignation of Kevin Maziarz was unanimously accepted by the eight remaining members of Crawford Central School Board during their monthly meeting Monday night and a date has been set for interviewing applicants and selecting a replacement.
The board was originally scheduled to meet for its May work session on May 13 and its monthly meeting on May 20.
However, plans now call for the board to meet on May 20 at 4 p.m. to conduct interviews. A special meeting to appoint the replacement will follow at 5:15, and the monthly work session will begin at 5:30.
The board’s monthly meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday, May 28, at 5:30 p.m. The May 28 meeting strays from the board’s normal Monday schedule to avoid taking place on Memorial Day, May 27. All sessions will take place in the district’s Instructional Support Center.
To be eligible for appointment, “an individual must be a citizen of Pennsylvania, have a good moral character, be at least 18 years old and have resided in Crawford Central School District for a least one year,” according to the district.
Interested candidates should submit either a letter of interest, which sets forth their qualifications or their resume to Charles E. Heller, III, Superintendent, Crawford Central School District, Instructional Support Center, 11280 Mercer Pike, Meadville, Pa. 16335. All letters or resumes must be received by Heller no later than 4 p.m. on May 3.
The term of the appointment will be May 20 through the end of November. Although Maziarz’s term ends at the end of November in 2015, Pennsylvania’s election law requires that the vacancy be filled at the first municipal election occurring more than 60 days after the resignation. As a result, the appointment will end at the end of this November and the remainder of the term will be filled by the winner of a two-year seat in the November election.
Board President Jan VanTuil thanked Maziarz for his service to the board, citing business and family factors as contributing to his decision to step aside.
