County seeks $2 million grant to spruce up Conneaut Lake's downtown

MEADVILLE — Conneaut Lake Borough Council has received backing from the county in efforts to revitalize the borough’s downtown business district.

Crawford County commissioners Thursday voted unanimously to submit a $2 million grant request to the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program.

The money, if obtained, would be used along Water Street in the borough to relocate overhead utility lines underground; install new curbing, sidewalks and crosswalks; add decorative street lights and signal poles; and install new landscaping.

The county has committed $200,000 in community development funds toward the project and Conneaut Lake Borough has committed $150,000 in funding.

Conneaut Lake has received $925,000 in other state and federal grants to go toward its community revitalization project this fall. Funding includes work for stormwater improvements; street, sidewalk and curb work; and rehabilitation and further development of Fireman’s Beach, the borough-owned public beach and dock area on Conneaut Lake.
