Departments team up on drug bust

A 21-year-old Conneaut Lake resident was committed to Crawford County jail in lieu of $50,000 bail Thursday following an early-morning arraignment on marijuana-related charges before Meadville Area Magisterial District Judge William Chisholm.

Bryan Stevens Melchor of 11886 Lakeview Drive, Conn-eaut Lake, was arraigned at 3:30 a.m. following his arrest.

According to Meadville Police Chief Dave Stefanucci, Meadville officers were assisted in both the investigation and the arrest by Conneaut Lake police.

Melchor is charged with delivery of a controlled substance, two counts each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance and one count each of criminal use of a communication facility and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Court records indicate that Melchor allegedly texted a confidential informant, agreeing to deliver a quarter pound of marijuana packed in four individually-wrapped plastic baggies in exchange for $450 at Melchor’s residence. The defendant allegedly delivered the baggies and received the agreed-upon purchase price Wednesday.

Court records also charge Melchor with possessing 11 additional individually wrapped plastic baggies of marijuana as well as a scale used to weigh and package the substance that had marijuana residue on it.

Det. Sgt. Craig Gump said a total of 1 pound of marijuana was involved.

If convicted on all charges, Melchor faces as much as 27 years in prison and up to $97,500 in fines.

According to Stefanucci, in additional to the marijuana, police confiscated $4,400 in cash during the arrest.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 7 at 1:30 p.m.
