VERNON TOWNSHIP — Building the new dealership showroom and service facilities for Palmiero Toyota Scion was a community effort, according to Allison Palmiero Brady, president of the Vernon Township auto dealership.

“We used lot of local contractors and we also used a lot of our customers,” she said, noting many of the contractors and customers are one in the same.

There are 18 contractors for the project listed on the dealership’s website with most from Crawford County. The construction cost was estimated at $4.5 million, according to records filed with Vernon Township.

“It was so nice to spend the money locally,” Palmiero Brady said Sunday during an open house for the new facilities on Route 322, west of Meadville. “That’s what we’re most proud of. It’s a community building.”

The project started in September 2012 and was completed in October of this year — a complete rebuilding of the dealership’s facilities at its location. The business remained open during the project with work done in phases.

The new service and parts departments were built first followed by a new two-story showroom and office building.

“It was a little tight for a while,” Palmiero Brady said with a laugh about juggling space and keeping the business operating while the construction project moved forward over an 13-month period.

The new dealership now has about 42,000 square feet under its roof.

“We about tripled our (previous) space,” said Michael Ross, one of the owners of dealership along with Palmiero Brady and Brian Harrison.

The new building has an enclosed drive-up service area for customers to drop off their vehicles for service. “That’s something that’s a real advantage for our customers — not having to get out of their cars in the weather,” Ross said.

There also are 23 service bays in the building with 20 equipped with vehicle lifts, he said. There were only 14 bays in the old building, which originally dated back to the late 1970s.

Customer amenities in the new building include a modern two-sided waiting lounge with both a wide-screen TV and a fireplace, plus a play area for children, he said. There’s even a community room for use by customers available.

Palmiero Brady is proud to have the new larger facility project completed.

“Our customers deserved it and our employees deserved it,” she said of the project.
