Voter turnout around 22 percent

MEADVILLE — Turnout for Tuesday’s election was a little more than 22 percent, according to the Crawford County Board of Elections, which also reported few voting problems.

Unofficial numbers had 11,814 out of 52,368 registered voters, or 22.56 percent, cast ballots.

There were only about half dozen minor problems reported with electronic voting machines the county uses, said Jack Lynch, chairman of the county election board.

The polling station for Meadville’s Second Ward, Third Precinct located at First Christian Church had one of its machines freeze around 10 a.m., but there were at least three other machines available at the precinct for voters to use until election officials were able to get it working again, Lynch said.

There were a total of five other machines scattered at precincts around the county that had to be recalibrated to make sure the machine’s touch screen was working properly, Lynch said. All the precincts had at least one other machine available to voters while the machine in question was recalibrated.
