Volunteers out to give Conneaut Lake Park a new, better look

You can join in to help this weekend

CONNEAUT LAKE — Ron Schaub is hoping to find a few volunteers to help paint buildings at Conneaut Lake Park and landscape the grounds this weekend and throughout the summer.

Schaub, 42, is a Pittsburgh area contractor who has loved the more than 100-year-old amusement park since he was a little boy.

“I used to go to the park with my dad to picnics the firm he worked for had,” Schaub said.

But on a visit to the park about six years ago, Schaub said what he saw was “not what I remembered,” noting buildings were in need of paint and the grounds in need of landscaping.

Schaub began to volunteer his services this year by painting buildings and wants to paint and landscape as much as possible.

“I went up a month or so ago and have been up about every weekend,” Schaub said.

A visit from June 7 through 9 saw painting along about half the midway and the start of work on picnic pavilions at the Blue Streak rollercoaster. A visit June 16 and 17 included continued work around the Blue Streak as well as landscaping.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday will see continued work around the Blue Streak as well as work on the Splash City Bath House and other areas. If painting can’t be done due to wet weather, there still will be landscaping done, Schaub said.

“We’ve been getting donations from customers, stores and buying paint as well,” Schaub said. He hopes to have more than 100 gallons of paint donated throughout the year.

“All help is appreciated,” Schaub said. “People can come for as long as they want.”
