Mark A. Gerow of Cambridge Springs was appointed to PENNCREST School Board on Thursday night by a 7-0 vote.
Gerow, who won slots on both the Republican and Democratic tickets in the May primary for a four-year term on the board, will replace Harry Hicks, whose term expires in December.
Hicks, who announced that he would not seek election to a second term prior to the primary, submitted his formal resignation to the board in July.
Gerow, currently a cost accountant and inventory control manager with The Akron Products Company in Meadville, has previous experience as an insurance agent and financial adviser, areas of expertise identified as desirable by several board members.
Following his appointment, Gerow was sworn in by Ted Watts Sr., the district’s attorney.
The selection took place during a continuation of the board’s recent monthly meeting, which was continued to allow the board to approve several personnel decisions that had not been ready for action at the time as well as appoint a replacement for Hicks.
During the meeting, the board interviewed three candidates, Gerow, Gerry Deane and Bill Manzel. Following the interviews and a brief discussion, Gerow’s name was placed in nomination and his appointment was approved.
