From “High School Musical” stars and an “American Idol” rocker to the “Redneck Woman” and the “Angry American,” there’s something for nearly everybody at the 2008 Crawford County Fair, according to organizers.
Crawford County Fair Board’s announcement Monday about Carter’s Chord and Trailer Choir playing as the opening acts for Toby Keith — who’s also being joined on stage by Mica Roberts for his Aug. 21 performance — completes the concert schedule for this year’s fair.
“We’re very fortunate this year,” Fair Board Treasurer Fred Wagner said Monday. “Of course I’m biased, but I think we have a great fair” in store.
Other previously-announced concerts include “High School Musical” stars Vanessa Hudgens and Corbin Bleu on Aug. 18; rock group Daughtry on Aug. 19; and country stars Gretchen Wilson and Blake Shelton on Aug. 20.
So far, the Hudgins-Bleu show has sold 2,500 tickets; Daughtry, 3,200; Wilson-Shelton, 3,200; and Keith, 3,700.
Something for the young crowd
“High School Musical” stars Vanessa Hudgens and Corbin Bleu will take the stage this year at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18.
“I’m really excited about this show,” Wagner said recently. “It’s the first show of this kind (at the county fair), targeting the teens. Now we truly have something for everybody.”
Most of this music attracts those from the ages of 8 to 15, he said, but added the concert is open to all ages.
Hudgens is best known for her roles in the Disney Channel movies “High School Musical” and “High School Musical 2.” She released her debut solo album, “V,” in 2007, which features a variety of rock, electronic, and rhythm and blues. As part of the album’s release, Hudgens toured with the pop act Cheetah Girls.
Bleu also comes from the “High School Musical” cast. He achieved fame through many other roles on television and stage. A Brooklyn, N.Y., native, he was recently nominated for a 2008 NAACP Image Award for Best New Artist. He released his debut album “Another Side” in May 2007. It featured the hit single “Push it to the Limit.”
Bleu played the devoted basketball player in “High School Musical.”
As of Monday, the teen stars’ show had sold roughly 2, 500 tickets, according to Wagner.
