Fans of rock music will have a chance to hear one of today’s hottest groups — Daughtry — this year as the group brings its music to the Crawford County Fair.

Announcement of the band’s appearance was made Monday by Crawford County Fair Board Treasurer Frederic Wagner.

Daughtry was founded by former “American Idol” contestant Chris Daughtry, who finished fourth in the 2006 season of the popular television show. The band’s debut album was at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for two consecutive weeks. The first single, “It’s Not Over,” was the eighth most played song on U.S. radio in 2007. “Home,” the second single, was the 10th most played across all radio music formats, according to Wagner.

The band was nominated for four Grammy Awards this year, including Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

Its current song, “Feels Like Tonight,” is No. 2 on charts, said Wagner.

“The fair board has been receiving requests to bring a newer rock act to the fair and this particular act represents one of the most popular rock acts in the country. Daughtry is a perfect fit for our fair as the band provides an up-tempo clean show that is sure to bring a new energy to the stage,” Wagner said.

Vocalist Daughtry is joined by Josh Paul on bass, Joey Barnes on drums, and Brian Craddock and Josh Steely on guitars.

Tickets for the Tuesday, Aug. 19 performance go on sale Monday at 8:30 a.m. at all fair ticket outlets, including the Crawford County Courthouse on Diamond Park in Meadville, online at www.crawfordcountyfair.net, or by phone at (800) 585-3737.

Wagner said although all sites will open for tickets at the same time, portions of the three center sections of the grandstand will be reserved for those who appear at the courthouse in person. He said the board believes it’s only fair that people who stand in line for hours to purchase tickets should have first chance at what many believe are the best seats for the show.

Prices are $45 for racetrack and $40 for grandstand, which includes a $3.50 service charge. All seats are reserved. There is no limit to the number of tickets that can be purchased by an individual.

The rock show is the third musical concert to be announced by the fair board.

Tickets are already on sale for two country shows, Gretchen Wilson and Blake Shelton, to perform Aug. 20, and country superstar Toby Keith, who will perform Aug. 21. Both shows will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for those shows also can be purchased at the three above outlets.

Wagner said a fourth major entertainment — designed for the younger teen audience — and “once again something new and different for our fair” — will be announced soon.
