NEW LOCAL: Conneaut Lake Park sheriff's sale postponed

A sheriff’s sale of office equipment set for today at Conneaut Lake Park has been delayed for 30 days.

Diane Sparks, deputy with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, said the sale was continued at the request of an attorney. However, she said she didn’t have the paperwork available to show the reason for the continuance.

However, according to the Pennsylvania Department of State’s Web site, Mercer County State Bank has a Uniform Commercial Code listing against the Trustees of Conneaut Lake Park.

That means the bank has attached liens to all the park’s property, meaning nothing can be sold without the bank approval.

The bank had loaned the park money to open several years ago with the stipulation that it had the first lien against any park property.

Sysco Food Services of Philadelphia had filed for the sale to recoup more than $3,000 it is owed from the park, which was closed last year.

Among items to be sold are a surveillance camera system, a five-piece desk unit, a copier, a fax machine, three filing cabinets, three air conditioners, a conference table and six chairs, two computers and 10 office chairs.

Sysco filed a judgment June 6 against the park for $3,132.81. Since the judgment hadn’t been paid, the company chose to proceed to sheriff’s sale.

At a sheriff’s sale, items are put up for live auction. Proceeds will be used to pay off the judgment and any leftover funds will go to the park.

The 115-year-old amusement park was closed in May when there was no money to open for the season. The new board of Trustees of Conneaut Lake Park was appointed in July and opened the Beach Club restaurant and bar in August. The board also opened the park’s Hotel Conneaut for several late-summer weekends before it was closed by the Sadsbury Township zoning officer because of a problem with the fire escape.

The Beach Club was closed for the season at the end of October.

The park is a charitable trust and is operated by a court-appointed board. Its job is to oversee the daily operations of the park.
