WEST MEAD TOWNSHIP — It’s a clean sweep for the DeVore clan.

With Brittani DeVore crowned Miss Crawford County 2008 at the fair Sunday night, members of the family currently hold the Miss, Junior Miss and Little Miss Crawford County titles. Makenna Robison, DeVore’s cousin, is Junior Miss and Brittani’s sister, Michaila, is Little Miss.

The connection is far from coincidence. Moments after wiping away the tears as she was crowned, Brittani stressed that “my sister is Little Miss Crawford County, so she is my role model.”

The third time proved the charm for Brittani — she was first runner up last year — and the 19-year-old Saegertown High School graduate is already laying plans to promote her platform, combating childhood obesity.

To do this, she’s advancing the Dance Dance Revolution, an interactive videogame in which participants follow fast-paced dance moves. She will meet with teachers and school administrators across the region to educate them about the physical benefits of Dance Dance Revolution, its appeal to kids and ways to integrate it into physical education curricula.

Brittani is a sophomore double major in fashion merchandising and communications at Mercyhurst College in Erie. The daughter of Todd and Christine DeVore plans a career as a public relations specialist

or as a fashion buyer. While she wowed the crowd with her jazz dance to “Party Girls” by Ultra Nate and was the definition of elegance in her black evening gown, she’s no wall flower. Under “things that would surprise people about me” on her pageant application, she writes: “I can drive a standard Jeep, hunt and fish.”

Along with the right to represent Crawford County at the Miss Pennsylvania Scholarship Pageant, Brittani will receive a number of gifts, including a $2,000 cash scholarship and a $4,000 housing and $2,000 tuition scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh. She also won the $500 Community Service Award and $250 Interview Award.

Taking it all in just after receiving her crown and hugs from family and friends, she said “It’s just an amazing feeling!”

First runner-up was 17-year-old Carly Rice of Meadville.
