SITE FOR GUITARISTS

Imagine how impressed your friends will be when you take out the guitar and play the latest chart-topper note for note. With enough experience playing guitar, you can find the chords and tablature to almost any song you can dream of at www.ultimate-guitar.com. From obscure bands to big hits, you can find much of what you are looking for. You can also read CD reviews and guest columns or even submit your own article for publication on the site. There are songs for every skill category, so whether you are looking to figure out a death-metal guitar solo or a Johnny Cash strum-along, this is the place to go.

BROOKLYN GROUP ADDICTIVE

The expression “either you love it or you hate it” certainly applies to the debut by Brooklyn’s Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Part of the appeal is definitely singer Alec Ounsworth’s original — to say the least — vocal style. Even I must admit that after the first listen I did not think I would be able to immerse myself in his voice, but after a few more songs, it becomes almost addictive. Originally styled guitar riffs and lyrics to bend the mind help make the self-titled “Clap Your Hands Say Yeah” CD a worthwhile purchase. Ear grabbers such as “Gimme Some Salt” and “The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth” will be stuck in your head for days to come.

CATCHY TUNES FROM THE AGRICULTURE

The Agriculture’s self-titled production is a weird little album with some surprisingly upbeat songs incongruently designated by titles like “Land of the Dead,” “Don’t Look in the Attic,” “Kane’s Alien Trainwreck” and “The Ancient Evil.” Just under 45 minutes long, this concept album is packed with pretty good beats and a diverse sound somewhere along the lines of MF Doom or DJ Spooky. Check out www.theagriculture.com.

ADD LAUGHTER TO YOUR LIFE

Adding a little laughter into your life can never be a bad idea. The site www.funnytimes.com is the home to one of the longest-running humor magazines around, and has been building its reputation as a funny-bone bender for more than 20 years. Although not all of the content from the print issue is available online, there is certainly enough to bring a smile to your face after a long day. If items from the site leave you wanting more, order a sample of Funny Times — with no obligation to pay if you aren’t satisfied. However, with writers such as Dave Barry, Andy Borowitz and Matt Groening, there is not much room for disappointment.
