LOVEKILL SCORES IN DEBUT ALBUM
The Lovekill have crafted that elusive indie rock ’n’ roll product, the kind of stuff that actually sounds better when played live and loud in a garage with cheap equipment. The Strokes set the standard. But the Lovekill compete handsomely. Yes, the Cleveland-based four — Chris Ranger (vocals), Johan Bayer (guitar), Carla Cherry (bass) and Craig Ramsey (drums) — put together a catchy little package in this debut LP, “These Moments are Momentum.” Angry but not to the point of parody, energetic and authentic, the sound catches the listener immediately with strong hooks and chanted choruses. Standout tracks include “Heart Wires” and the opener “Palms and Gin.”

THE LIGHTER SIDE OF NEWS
Reading the news becomes more and more depressing each day. That’s why I’m thankful that www.thespoof.com is around. The site claims to be “the leading satire newspaper on the Internet providing an irreverent and satirical slant to the current big news stories.” And it certainly comes through with its promise. Everything from satirical jokes about everyday politics all the way to fake diary entries from Tom Cruise, this site will leave you in stitches. So as long as you don’t take the site too seriously, you can have a few good laughs and a lighter view of the state of the world.
