DATE RAPE SITE
Most of us would prefer not to think about it, but date rape is especially common on college and university campuses. With the new school year opening, it’s time to give it the proper level of attention. Though it is prone to happening on campuses, date rape can happen anywhere, to anyone. Women can help safeguard themselves with advice from www.estronaut.com/a/avoiding—rape.htm, which is a site that offers tips, advice and information. It’s impossible to guarantee your safety, but there are proven ways to lessen your chance of becoming a victim. This site offers countless tips that you can use at home, at the bar or even in class. — CHRIS CURRY
INNOVATIVE MUSICAL UNDERTAKING
As the Times of London said succinctly, listening to Kieran Hebden and Steve Reid “you would swear the ghost of John Coltrane was walking through North London with a laptop under his arm.” Less eloquently stated, The Exchange Session Vol. 2 is a really cool album. Not for every mood, mind you, but a truly innovative musical undertaking that deserves to be heard. Incorporating the drumming of Reid and the cyber-electro abstractions of Hebden, this album weaves together layers of sound that are intermittently harmonious and jarringly discordant. Reid’s adept jazz drumming provides anchorage for the fantastical and often chaotic structures of sound Hebden carefully constructs through samples, feedback, and found noise. This ain’t no smooth jazz — it’s the soundtrack to techno-socio-meltdown! Dig it. — JAMES SANDHAM
TEXTBOOKS ON LINE
College can be one of the most fun and rewarding times of your life, but it can also be one of the most expensive. With tuition rising, students are looking for other ways to save money. That makes www.campusbooks.com an invaluable resource for any student. If you’ve been to the bookstore at your college or university, you have undoubtedly noticed the ridiculous prices on the books that are essential for your courses. The owners of this site have also noticed, and created a site that makes it easy for students to find books that fit into their budgets. Most are used, but with the amount of money that you can save, that seems like a small inconvenience. You can peruse the books by your area of study and go through their huge arsenal of textbooks to find exactly what you need without draining your checking account. — CHRIS CURRY
