CHARITY FOLLIES: The Meadville Medical Center Charity Follies are Nov. 21 to 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Meadville Area Senior High School auditorium. The Nov. 21 show is an open dress rehearsal with tickets sold for $10 at the door. As organizers describe it, the Nov. 21 show is ‘no frills, no programs, probably lots of mistakes.’ For the Nov. 22 and 23 shows, tickets are $5 for kids 12 and under and $15 for adults, with four tickets for $50. Tickets are available at the Meadville Medical Center gift shops at Liberty Street and Grove Street; Jeron Jewelers, 307 Chestnut St.; and the Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake Road, Vernon Township. All proceeds benefit the projects of the Meadville Medical Center Auxiliary.
‘THE LADY PIRATES OF CAPTAIN BREE’: Auditions for Meadville Commuity Theatre’s youth musical are Dec. 9 and 10 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at 400 N. Main St., Meadville. Bring a song to sing and be prepared to read from the script. An accompanist is provided. Many roles are available for males and females, as well as some non-singing roles. Rehearsals begin Jan. 6. ‘MARY POPPINS’: It’s a high-flying holiday season on the mainstage at the Erie Playhouse Dec. 5 through Jan. 5. Based on the book by P.L. Travers and the classic Disney film, ‘Mary Poppins’ is the story of the Banks family who live in London on Cherry Tree Lane. The children, Jane and Michael, are out of control and in need of a new nanny. They have their own ideas about what sort they should have, while their parents — in particular, Mr. Banks — are insistent on someone strict for the job. When Mary Poppins appears at their doorstep, the family finds that she’s the answer to their prayers, but in a most peculiar way. Showtimes are Dec. 5 to 8, 11 to 15, 19 to 22, 27-29 and 31; and Jan 3 to 5. Wednesday to Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday shows are at 2 pm.; and there are Saturday matinees only on Dec. 28 and Jan. 4. ‘MESSIAH’: Presented by the Franklin Civic Operetta Association, the bi-annual production is Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m. on the Main Stage at the Barrow-Civic Theatre. Directed by Steven Luxbacher, this year’s performance is entitled ‘Holiday Radio.’ The first act is the classical hour, includingthe Christmas portion of ‘Messiah’ and the ‘Hallelujah Chorus.’ The second act is holiday music of the 1940s and 1950s, featuring short radio skits and traditional Christmas favorites, such as ‘The Night Before Christmas,’ ‘Do You Hear What I Hear?’ ‘Home for the Holidays’ and others. This year’s choir has 95 members from Crawford, Venango, Clarion, Mercer and Butler counties.
‘WICKED’: One of Cleveland’s most popular musicals, ‘Wicked,’ returns to PlayhouseSquare Dec. 4 to Jan. 5, 2014, as part of the KeyBank Broadway Series at PlayhouseSquare. The untold story of the witches of Oz, ‘Wicked’ is based on the best-selling 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire. Performances will be Tuesdays through Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2 and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 1 and 6:30 p.m. Due to the holidays there will be no performances on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1. Additional performances are Dec. 5 at 2 p.m., Dec. 23 at 8 and Dec. 30 at 8.
