Meadville Council on the Arts is offering a kids’ theatre program based around theatre activism.
Participants learn basic acting skills, voice and movement techniques, improvisation, and script writing. They work together to create an original performance based on a topic that they are passionate about. These potential topics include, but are not limited to: anti-bullying, treating each other with respect, or learning the importance of school. The students will choose what topic they want to convey in their performance. When they have created the show, the students will have the opportunity to perform in MCA’s Gardner Theatre as well as different venues in Meadville, such as Juniper Village and Rolling Fields.
The class takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m., starts on Feb. 19 and costs $5 a week. Payments can be made weekly or all at once. The program ends April 24. Students ages 8 and up are welcome to sign up. Pre-registration is not necessary, just arrive the first day a few minutes early.
The class will be taught by Katie Beck, an Allegheny student majoring in theatre.
