FRENCH CREEK BRASS: First Presbyterian Church of Meadville has named the French Creek Brass its artists-in-residence for the 2013-14 season. This quintet of players comprises Jennifer Dearden and Daniel Honeycutt of Meadville, trumpets; Ken Russo of Pittsburgh, horn; Ronald Stitt of Edinboro, trombone; and Gary Viebranz of Erie, tuba. This quintet will provide special music on several Sundays throughout the church year. LORI SIMS: Internationally known pianist Lori Sims will perform a free concert on Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Ford Chapel at Allegheny College. She will perform the Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue in d minor, BWV 90, by Johann Sebastian Bach; the Fantasia (Variations), Opus 25, by Ben Weber; “Excursions,” Opus 20, by Samuel Barber; and “Carnaval,” Opus 9, by Robert Schumann. Her concert at Allegheny College is made possible through the generosity of Meadville resident Charles Shortt, in memory of his wife, Meredith, who was also a pianist.
‘BASICALLY BRITISH’: The sounds of Britain will be the theme of a free concert taking place in Allegheny College’s Ford Chapel on Oct. 26 at 7:30 p.m. This collaboration between the Allegheny College Department of Music and the First Presbyterian Church of Meadville showcases works by composers from the British Isles, ranging from the Renaissance to the modern era. Headlining the concert are the Allegheny College Brass Quintet and Trumpet Ensemble, coached by professor Jennifer Dearden. Solo performers include Dearden and tenor Andrew Daigle, accompanied by Kevin Dill, music director of First Presbyterian Church. This concert also marks the debut of the Kinesis Handbell Ensemble, made up of select ringers from the bell choir of First Presbyterian.

ERIE CHAMBER ORCHESTRA: Begins Luther Memorial Concert Series on Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Luther Memorial Church, 256 W. 10th St. Erie. Fawzi Haimor will be guest conductor. In late August, harpsichord soloist Claudia Hoca was involved in a car accident following a performance with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra. This performance was to feature her talents. While in recovery, the Erie Chamber Orchestra honors her with a performance by her friend and violinist Charles Castleman.

KEN AND CINDY HALL: Ken Hall and his wife, Cindy, perform Oct. 20 at 3 p.m. at Venango Museum of Art, Science and Industry, 270 Seneca St., Oil City. Cindy plays the flute as Ken accompanies her on piano. Their music includes a diverse mixture of traditional, folk and original compositions. Refreshments will be served. EDINBORO CONCERT SERIES: The fall 2013 semester’s First Friday Concert Series is free to Edinboro University students. There is a fee for all others.
