MEADVILLE — LOCAL

‘WIZARD OF OZ’: French Creek Community Theater presents ‘Wizard of Oz,’ the classic family musical, Nov. 7 to 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. at the Academy Theatre. Tickets: Visit theacademytheatre.org or at the door of the show.

AUDITIONS

CHRISTMAS CONCERT: The Saegertown Area Community Choir is looking for area singers to join rehearsals for the sixth annual Christmas concert on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at Christ Evangelical Free Church, 19682 Hill Road, Saegertown. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church. This year the choir will present an array of music, including Handel’s ‘Hallelujah Chorus.’ More information: Call (814) 763-2934 or visit christefca.org.

REGIONAL

‘PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE’: The fall production of the Studio Theatre at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is Nov. 1, 2, 7 through 9 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 3 and 10 at 2 p.m. The stakes could not be higher. The contestants, saddled with adolescence, absent parents and schedules that allow just three hours of sleep, have been cast out, and they know it. Most see a ‘Putnam’ win as their only hope. The show, with music and lyrics by William Finn and book by Rachel Sheinkin, is a comedy that doesn’t dumb down. At each performance, four members of the audience are invited to join the cast. They are given their own words to spell, forcing the rest of the cast to ad-lib. That adds unexpected comic moments. More information or for tickets: Call (814) 898-6242.

‘FRECKLEFACE STRAWBERRY: THE MUSICAL’: The Erie Playhouse Youtheatre brings the beloved best-selling book by Julianne Moore, Freckleface Strawberry, to the stage in a musical production Nov. 8 to 17. Freckleface Strawberry (Sydney Rudd) will do anything to get rid of her freckles — from scrubbing them with soap, to caking on makeup, and even wearing a ski mask to school. Will Freckleface be brave enough to finally face her complexion in the mirror? With the help of her loveable schoolmates, including an amazingly talented ballerina (Hannah Steiner), a cutie jock (Brandon Hayes), a charming ditz (Jenna Halasz) and a totally kooky teacher (Susan Lechner), Freckleface learns that everyone is different — and that’s what makes everyone special. For tickets:  Call (814) 454-2852, extension 0, or visit the playhouse at 13 W. 10 St., Erie, or erieplayhouse.org online.
