BLASHFORD RECITAL: Bailey Blashford, a junior at Allegheny College, will present a recital of art songs and arias on Nov. 2 at 3:15 p.m. in Ford Memorial Chapel on the Allegheny campus. She will begin the recital with pieces by three 20th century composers: John Jacob Niles, Samuel Barber and Maurice Ravel. Three pieces by Niles — settings of American folksongs — will be followed by two sacred pieces: ‘The Crucifixion’ by Barber and a setting of the Hebrew prayer Kaddish by Ravel. Blashford will also perform arias from ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ and ‘Cosi fan tutte’ by Mozart; a ‘tipsy waltz’ from ‘La Perichole’ by Offenbach; ‘O mio babbino caro’ from ‘Gianni Schicchi’ by Puccini; and ‘Mein Herr Marquis’ from Johann Strauss’ ‘Die Fledermaus.’ She will conclude the program with ‘When I Have Sung My Songs’ by Ernest Charles.
COOTIE HARRIS JAZZ JAM: Nov. 3 from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Gardner Theatre on the second floor of the Meadville Market House, hosted by The Meadville Council on the Arts. MCA Jazz Jams were started more than 30 years ago, with the foresight and dedication of Harris. He has worked hard to keep the Jazz Jam alive, bringing in musicians and involving young people so they can learn from professionals. Admission is $5, with performing musicians free. SALMON FRANK: Nov. 6 from 8 to 11 p.m., WXCS Radio Open Mike and Jam Session, The Villa Tavern, Cambridge Springs.
KALEIDO: The group is on tour this fall, bringing their energetic pop rock sound to the masses. The tour makes a stop in Meadville at the Voodoo Brewery, 215 Arch St., on Nov. 16 at 8 p.m. with special guets Shinobi Ninja. Kaleido just finished a summer full of music festivals, including dates on the Van’s Warped Tour and the Rockstar Uproar Festival.
THE HOPPERS: Presenting gospel music, the band will be in concert Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. at New Beginnings Church of God, 13226 Leslie Road, Meadville. The Hoppers have performed throughout the U.S. as well as Israel, Europe and Africa. The group recently was inducted in to the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. FIRST FRIDAY CONCERT SERIES: Edinboro University’s First Friday Concert Series continue Nov. 1 with a performance by Music Department faculty member Erik Mann. The performance will be held from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. in the Dr. William P. Alexander Music Center’s Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public. Mann, a classical guitarist, will present a program of works by Brazilian composer Paulo Bellinati. First Friday Concerts, which feature Edinboro University Music Department faculty, are held monthly at the Alexander Music Center throughout the fall and spring semesters.
CHURCH MUSIC JAM: A free, open-to-the-public country, gospel and bluegrass music jam is the first Saturday of every month from 6 to 9 p.m. at the New Apostolic Church in Greenville across from The Medicine Shoppe. No drugs, alcohol or smoking is allowed. All are invited to enjoy and/or to bring their instruments and play. The next event is Nov. 2.
VENANGO MUSEUM: On Nov. 3 at 3 p.m. Paul Roberts, a theater organist from the United Kingdom, will present a special program on the Wurlitzer theater organ at the Venango Museum of Art, Science and Industry.
