ARTS: Here's your listing for area exhibits and more for the week starting Nov. 21

MEADVILLE — MEADVILLE COUNCIL ON THE ARTS: The newest exhibit, ‘Fascination with the Whimsical,’ in the Heeschen Gallery (second floor of the Market House) scheduled through Dec. 14. The exhibit highlights the work of six artists who work in varied media with an emphasis on line and the playfulness of it. Creations are by Greg Gehner, Passle Helminski, Jera Lodge, Rebecca Merry, Lisa Parnapy and Kathryn E. Travis. Gallery hours are Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. More information: Call 336-5051 or email artscouncil@zoominternet.net.

‘FALL FOR THE ARTS’: The Gallery of the Academy Theatre presents an exhibit that runs through Nov. 25 at 275 Chestnut St., Meadville. This is an eclectic exhibit of artists, featuring work by Bill Brady, BoNanas Cartoon strip creator John Kovaleski and the Tucson Collective ‘Wolfgang and Sons dot com.’ It also features some local work from Penn State University, The Behrend College and Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. The gallery is free and open to the public during Academy Theatre shows and Monday through Friday from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

MEADVILLE FINE ARTS: Paintings by Lois Wiley of Waterford will be on exhibit through Nov. 30. Wiley has been active for many years in the art community throughout northwest Pennsylvania. Her exhibit will include landscapes as well as still life oil paintings. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Meadville Fine Arts, 242 Chestnut St. More information: Call 337-8600 or email info@meadvilleart.com.

SANDY’S ART WORKS GALLERY: Although owls are far more heard than seen, wildlife painter Don O’Day gives the viewer a detailed picture of local owls with paintings and prints on exhibit through Nov. 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays at Sandy’s Art Works, 215 Chestnut St., Meadville.

‘JAPAN TODAY’: The November art exhibit in the Ashtabula Arts Center’s gallery features ‘Japan Today’ on display through Nov. 26. Everyone is welcome to come in and view the exhibit. Light refreshments will be served. Admission to both the exhibit and the reception are free. The Arts Center is located at 2928 W. 13th St. More information: Call Meeghan Humphrey at (440) 964-3396.
