MEADVILLE — LOCAL

AUDITIONS

‘A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE’: The Academy Theatre, 275 Chestnut St., Meadville, holds auditions on Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the Spotlight Production of ‘A View from the Bridge.’ The audition consists of a cold read. Written by Arthur Miller and directed by Ted Watts Jr., the show runs Jan. 3 through 5, with about a four-week rehearsal period. Walk-in auditioners are welcome. More information: Call the Academy Theatre at 337-8000 or visit theacademytheatre.org.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT: The Saegertown Area Community Choir is looking for area singers to join rehearsals for the sixth annual Christmas concert on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at Christ Evangelical Free Church, 19682 Hill Road, Saegertown. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church. This year the choir will present an array of music, including Handel’s ‘Hallelujah Chorus.’ More information: Call 763-2934 or visit christefca.org.

REGIONAL

‘[TITLE OF SHOW]’: A musical about two nobodies named Hunter and Jeff who decide to write a completely original musical starring themselves and their attractive and talented ladyfriends, Susan and Heidi, runs Nov. 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. Barrow-Civic Theatre, 1223 Liberty St., Franklin. Hunter and Jeff brainstorm, sing and argue while beginning a journey as artists and friends as they write a musical about writing a musical. This production is rated R for adult language, content and situations. No one under 17 will be admitted without parent or guardian. For tickets: Call (800) 537-7769 or barrowtheatre.com.

‘PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE’: The fall production of the Studio Theatre at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is Nov. 7 through 9 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. The stakes could not be higher. The contestants, saddled with adolescence, absent parents and schedules that allow just three hours of sleep, have been cast out, and they know it. Most see a ‘Putnam’ win as their only hope. The show, with music and lyrics by William Finn and book by Rachel Sheinkin, is a comedy that doesn’t dumb down. At each performance, four members of the audience are invited to join the cast. They are given their own words to spell, forcing the rest of the cast to ad-lib. That adds unexpected comic moments. More information or for tickets: Call (814) 898-6242.

‘FRECKLEFACE STRAWBERRY: THE MUSICAL’: The Erie Playhouse Youtheatre brings the beloved best-selling book by Julianne Moore, Freckleface Strawberry, to the stage in a musical production Nov. 8 to 17. Freckleface Strawberry (Sydney Rudd) will do anything to get rid of her freckles — from scrubbing them with soap, to caking on makeup, and even wearing a ski mask to school. Will Freckleface be brave enough to finally face her complexion in the mirror? With the help of her loveable schoolmates, including an amazingly talented ballerina (Hannah Steiner), a cutie jock (Brandon Hayes), a charming ditz (Jenna Halasz) and a totally kooky teacher (Susan Lechner), Freckleface learns that everyone is different — and that’s what makes everyone special. For tickets:  Call (814) 454-2852, extension 0, or visit the playhouse at 13 W. 10 St., Erie, or erieplayhouse.org online.

CLEVELAND

THE MUSICAL BOX: Returns to the State Theatre at PlayhouseSquare in Cleveland on Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. to perform Genesis’ ‘Selling England By The Pound.’ This performance will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original Genesis album. The Musical Box is the only band in the world to acquire from Peter Gabriel and Genesis the performing rights and access to archives, audio tracks and original slideshow for Selling England By The Pound. For tickets: Visit playhousesquare.org or call (216) 241-6000. More information: Visit themusicalbox.net.

‘WICKED’: One of Cleveland’s most popular musicals, ‘Wicked,’ returns to PlayhouseSquare Dec. 4 to Jan. 5, 2014, as part of the KeyBank Broadway Series at PlayhouseSquare. The untold story of the witches of Oz, ‘Wicked’ is based on the best-selling 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire. Performances will be Tuesdays through Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2 and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 1 and 6:30 p.m. Due to the holidays there will be no performances on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1. Additional performances are Dec. 5 at 2 p.m., Dec. 23 at 8 and Dec. 30 at 8. Tickets may be purchased in person at the PlayhouseSquare ticket office (1519 Euclid Ave., Cleveland), online at playhousesquare.org or by calling (216) 241-6000.
