Here's your guide to area arts events for the week that started Oct. 24

MEADVILLE — EXHIBITS

MEADVILLE COUNCIL ON THE ARTS: The latest art show, the 39th annual October Evenings Juried Exhibit, which highlights more than 45 works of art by local artists in the Heeschen Gallery (second floor of the Market House). The event showcases photography, ceramics, paintings, assemblages, sculptures and more. The exhibit continues until Nov. 2 with gallery hours on Wednesday and Friday from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. More information: Call MCA at 336-5051 or email at artscouncil@zoominternet.net.

ALLEGHENY COLLEGE FACULTY/ALUMNI: The art galleries of Allegheny College will present the college’s annual faculty and alumni exhibit through Oct. 29. The exhibit is free and open to the public. The exhibit will feature a variety of works by Allegheny faculty members Sue Buck, Amara Geffen, Cheryl Hatch, Ben Haytock, Darren Lee Miller, George Roland and the Tribune’s Richard Sayer, sculpture technician Ian F. Thomas, and the art department’s 2013-2015 artist-in-residence, Steve Prince. Alex Kropinak, a 2007 grduate who majored in art and technology as a student at Allegheny College, will also exhibit. He will also lead an animation workshop for Allegheny students during a visit to the college on Oct. 29. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 12:30 to 5 p.m., Saturday from 1:30 to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4. Visitors are asked to call ahead to verify hours, since programs are subject to change. The Art Galleries are located in Doane Hall of Art, east of North Main Street between College and John streets. MICHAEL STEK ART GALLERY: The Pew Fine Arts Gallery and Grove City College hold the Michael Stek art exhibition through Nov. 16. Stek’s fascination with archeology, anthropology and art is apparent in his organic shapes and earthy tones. Both functional and non-functional ceramic forms come together to create this outstanding exhibition. There will be an artist’s reception on Oct. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. Regular gallery hours are Tuesdays through Fridays from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

SANDY’S ART WORKS GALLERY: Although owls are far more heard than seen, wildlife painter Don O’Day gives the viewer a detailed picture of local owls with paintings and prints on exhibit from Oct. 31 to Nov. 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays at Sandy’s Art Works, 215 Chestnut St., Meadville.

GRAFFITI GALLERY: Presenting Pittsburgh-based artists Hannah Bailey and Christine Novelli at the annual photography exhibition that opens runs through Nov. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at 210 Seneca St., Oil City. Exhibition hours are Friday and Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Bailey and Novelli’s two-person exhibit challenges the perception of reality through photography. Space, time and human connection to nature is questioned. Both artists have exhibited nationally and are fine art graduates of Edinboro University. In addition to prints, this show will include mixed-media and 3-D photography related pieces, including artists Gail Beck, Robin Bowman, Greg Knox, Carol McDonald, Sue Padalino, Piper Schofield, Eleanor ter Horst, Sonya Weaver and Paul Wittreich.

MEADVILLE FINE ARTS: Paintings by Lois Wiley of Waterford will be on exhibit through Nov. 30. Wiley has been active for many years in the art community throughout northwest Pennsylvania. Her exhibit will include landscapes as well as still life oil paintings. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Meadville Fine Arts, 242 Chestnut St. More information: Call 337-8600 or email info@meadvilleart.com.

KELLY RUN GALLERY: 264 S. Main St., Cambridge Springs, announces its new exhibit: Presque Isle Artists Association Annual Exhibit through Nov. 2. The featured artist is Ruth Swaney. Hours are Wednesday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4. More information: Call 398-9331 or visit kellyrungalleryandframing.com.
