New Council on the Arts show is a real 'Convergence' of talent

Gallery is open Saturday

MEADVILLE — Meadville Council on the Arts’ latest exhibit, “Convergence,” is on now in the Heeschen Gallery on the second floor of the Meadville Market House.

“Convergence” highlights four artists — Dennis Cerami, Frank Fecko, Ed Jonasen and Mary Rosiak converging together to exhibit their individual approaches to creating art.

Cerami’s work involves three dimensional pieces, including drift wood, salvage wood or metal and various found objects. His two dimensional collages include intentionally placed combinations of torn colored papers, old envelopes, clippings from various documents and discarded bags, wrapping, receipts and wallpaper.

At first glance, the viewer might not recognize the materials used in Fecko’s relief paintings. Often times the viewer must look at the label to discover Fecko’s “mystery” media. Fecko intends for the viewer to be surprised.

Jonasen’s assemblages and bas-reliefs combine found objects and rich textures usually unified with a metallic finish or left raw with one repeating dominant color. His assemblages have a surreal quality about them with his juxtaposition of objects next to one another that have no relationship.

Rosiak describes her work as memoirs or a diary of images. Her art is about things that she likes, places she has been and her experiences. She rarely explains her art, instead inviting the viewer to bring their own experiences so that the work will individually and uniquely speak to the viewer. Rosiak is constantly experimenting with different media and techniques at the risk of never forging a personal style.

The “Convergence” exhibit runs until Sept. 14 with gallery hours on Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
