Crawford County man is charged with homicide

Victim was reported missing more than 10 days ago

ROCKDALE TOWNSHIP — A Rockdale Township man is jailed on homicide and related charges in connection with the death of an Erie County man, who was reported missing earlier this month.

Richard A. Houy, 68, of Teepleville Flats Road is charged by Pennsylvania State Police with criminal homicide, criminal use of a communication facility, tampering with or fabricating evidence and false reports to law enforcement.

Houy is accused by police of killing Gerald P. Vandyke, 55, of Union City. Vandyke was reported missing on Sept. 15 by family members.

Vandyke was last seen by his family traveling east on Smith Road in LeBoeuf Township, Erie County at around 9 a.m. Sept. 14. Vandyke reportedly left his residence without his daily heart-related medication.

Police allege Vandyke’s death took place between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sept. 14.

Houy was arraigned early this morning before Magisterial District Judge Amy Nicols and placed in the Crawford County jail in Saegertown without bond.
