Congressional candidate faces petition challenge

MEADVILLE — The nomination petitions of a Democratic Party Congressional candidate from Mercer County are being challenged by the head of the Mercer County Democratic Party.

Mel Marin of Sharon is one of two Democrats seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination for Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District, which includes almost all of Crawford County.

However, Charles Rice, the head of the Mercer County Democratic Party, has filed an objection with the Pennsylvania Department of State, which oversees elections.

Rice’s petition seeks to remove Marin’s name from the May 20 primary ballot.

See Wednesday’s print edition for additional details.
