Coroner, state police at Mercer County crash scene

Severe crash reported on Interstate 79

MERCER COUNTY — The Mercer County Coroner’s Office, Pennsylvania State Police and Sheakleyville Volunteer Fire Department have been called to a severe crash on Interstate 79 in northern Mercer County.

Emegency personnel initially were sent to the scene at Milepost 135 of the northbound lanes of the interstate around 5:45 p.m.

Reports from the scene by Richard Sayer, a Meadville Tribune photographer,  indicated one silver vehicle had gone off the highway and down an embankment while a red automobile had crashed into a guardrail.

Northbound traffic was being diverted off the interstate onto other routes at the Greenville exit in Mercer County while southbound traffic was being diverted off the interstate at the Cochranton exit in Crawford County.
