NEW LOCAL: Plane forced to land at Port Meadville Airport

VERNON TOWNSHIP — Suspected engine trouble caused a Canadian couple to make an unplanned landing of their single-engine plane at Port Meadville Airport shortly after noon today.

Vernon Central Volunteer Fire Department and Vernon Township Police were dispatched by the Crawford County 911 Center at 12:19 p.m. to standby at the airport as the plane made its landing approach.

The pilot, Marc Charron, had reported engine trouble, but was able to land the plane safely at the airport, located about four miles west of Meadville in Vernon Township. Charron and his wife, Cher, of Ontario, Canada, were en route home at the time of incident.

See Monday’s print edition of The Meadville Tribune for more details.
