Meadville official warns drivers and walkers of heavy ice caused by water used in effort to douse apartment fire

MEADVILLE — Those traveling in Meadville now through Wednesday are being urged to use extreme caution in the area around the apartment house fire at Liberty and Chestnut streets, according to Joe Chriest, Meadville city manager.

Because of the subfreezing temperatures, roads are extremely icy from water being sprayed on the fire, Chriest said.

City streets crews are working to put down anti-skid in the area, Chriest said. The area where Chriest is urging caution covers Arch Street to Liberty Street to Walnut Street to South Main Street  back to Arch Street.

“We want people to use extreme caution,” Chriest said. “The YMCA (on Chestnut Street) will be open in the early morning (Wednesday), but it will be icy around the whole area.”
