Motorcycle crash kills one, injures another

SUMMERHILL TOWNSHIP — An Albion man was killed and his companion injured early Saturday evening in a violent motorcycle crash western Crawford County.

Michael M. Machalinski Jr., 45, died early this morning at UPMC Hamot following surgery for his injuries, according to Pennsylvania State Police at Meadville.

Machalinski crashed his motorcycle on Dicksonburg Road at the intersection with Route 18 in Summerhill Township at 6:14 p.m. Saturday, according to state police.

Machalinski applied a hard rear brake on the motorcycle as he approached the intersection with Route 18, causing the rear tire to lock and the bike to skid, police said.

The bike skidded more than 172 feet before laying down on its right side for 60 feet more, police said. When the bike came in contact with Route 18, it flipped onto its left side, ejecting both Machalinski and his passenger, Meagan M. Moyer, 33, of Albion, from the motorcycle, police said.

Moyer was released after treatment at UPMC Hamot, according to state police.

Neither was wearing a helmet, police said.
