Lake effect snow warning is now in effect

MEADVILLE — A lake effect snow warning is in effect for northwest Pennsylvania from now until midnight Sunday, according to the National Weather Service’s Cleveland office.

The forecast is calling for total accumulations of 6 to 12 inches of snow by midnight Sunday with the highest accumulations in the snow belt areas of southern Erie and northern Crawford counties.

Snow will develop this afternoon and continue tonight and Sunday before tapering off Sunday evening, according to the National Weather Service. Winds will be out of the northwest from 15 to 25 miles per hour with gusts to 35 mph tonight, but winds will decrease Sunday.

The temperature will fall to near 20 degrees tonight and hold nearly steady on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
