GREENE TOWNSHIP, Mercer County —
One worker was injured this morning in an explosion at a munitions factory near the Mercer County community of Jamestown.
The worker was injured just after 7:30 a.m. when a shell exploded causing facial injuries to the worker, according to Chief Mike Cadman of Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department.
“It was in one of the stages of production, an area where they wash products,” Cadman said. “There was no fire and only the one injury.”
The unidentified injured worker was airlifted from the scene to a trauma center, Cadman said.
Jamestown called for assistance, but Mercer County’s Greenville Fire Department and West Salem Township Volunteer Fire Department and Crawford County’s North Shenango Township and Fallowfield volunteer fire departments were turned back en route, Cadman said.
