Crawford County put under flood warning starting Sunday night

French Creek at Meadville expected to hit 14-foot flood stage around 7 p.m. Sunday

MEADVILLE — French Creek is expected to spill over its banks Sunday night and cause minor flooding in the region, according to the National Weather Service.

Crawford County is under a flood warning from Sunday evening until further notice as continuing rains combined with snow melt is causing the creek to rise.

At noon, French Creek at Mercer Street in Meadville was at 9.55 feet and rising, according to the National Weather Service.

The creek is predicted to rise to its 14-foot flood stage by about 7 p.m. Sunday, causing minor flooding in Meadville and is forecast to crest at 14.5 feet — a half-foot above flood stage — early Monday morning.

At 14 feet, flooding begins along Cussewago Creek near Race Street and flood waters will affect residents in Asbury Manor West mobile home park near the creek.

The heaviest rain period is expected late this afternoon through Sunday morning with up to 4 inches of rain possible

Flooding along streams and low lying areas may cause the closure of some roads and cause yard and field flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

Drivers are reminded by the National Weather Service to never drive a vehicle through flooded roadways as the water may be deeper than it appears.
